A fairly fast cross-country zigzag across the Montes de Toledo mountain ranges in the Spanish provinces of Cáceres and Toledo, to the south west of Madrid. They are respectively a part of the larger autonomous communities of Extramadura and Castile–La Mancha.($*$)The mountains in Caceres where we start are narrow ridges, not unlike the Appalachians, rising to the highest point of the whole system at La Villuerca (1603m/5259ft). Crossing later into the Toledo region, they have a different geology and character.
